Comments:Harrison-Hall and Krahl 1994:The dinner service to which this plate belonged is virtually unique in that it was made for a woman. The diamond-shaped shield is used in English heraldry to display the arms of an unmarried woman, widow or peeress in her own right. The present service is believed to have been made for the daughter and heiress of Henry Izod of Stainton, Gloucestershire who died in 1728 (Howard, 1974, p. 237).
