Description:
Stucco relief plaque showing a Gorgon face set within a bead border. In Greek mythology, Gorgons were terrifying female creatures who had hair of living, venomous snakes and whose gaze could turn a person into stone. The one depicted here has a broad face and nose, bulging eyes and painted teeth. Traces of white paint remain.
