- Description:
Six petal rhombus shaped mirror with hemispherical button. A string pattern divides the back of the mirror into inner and outer areas. The inner area is a pair of opposite dragons, surrounded by clouds. Once the dragon mouth is opened and closed, the dragon body on the right side has scales, while the scales on the left side are not obvious. The twin dragons embrace the mirror button, as if the twin dragons arched a bead. There is a three foot red stove below. The outer area is plain without lines. Such themes are commonly seen in bronze mirrors of the Southern Song Dynasty. The Hunan Provincial Museum collects a piece of “Double Dragon Pattern Sunflower Mirrors of Jiaxi Wuxu” with a chronology. Jiaxi is the year title of the Southern Song Emperor Lizong, and the chronology is 1238 AD.
