Comments:When this piece was first created in 1978 it was mde in red jasper with a black silk cord. It was inspried by Peretti’s love of Japan, specifically silk. The name ‘quadrifoglio’ (Italian for four leaved clover) was attached much later, in the early 2000s, for marketing purposes. Carvers have to train for six years before they have gained the skill to carve this interlaced knot motif. Tiffany gave it the name ‘quadrifoglio’ (Italian for four-leaf clover) because of its shape. The four-leaf clover is traditional good luck symbol. See also 2009.8033.18a-c for the stages in carving this oendant.
