Small bronze pendant depicting a harpy. Harpies are legendary bird-women who appear in Greek mythology. They are probably most well-known for stealing food from Phineus. He was the king of Thrace who was punished by Zeus when using his gift of prophecy to reveal too much of the future.Zeus blinded him and put him on an island with a buffet of food from which he could never eat because the harpies would always steal the food out of his hands. He was saved by Jason and the Argonauts. The object was cast in bronze and pierced for suspension.
