Comments:Rawson 1992:Ceremonial ceramics were displaced by ritual bronzes in the seventeenth or sixteenth century BC, at the beginning of the Shang dynasty. The flattened mouth rim of this vessel is a feature of sheet metalworking technology which has been carried over into this ceramic version of a ritual bronze vessel. The slightly flatenned shape of the handle is a comparable feature.
