Description:
Eight-lobed porcelain jar with underglaze blue decoration. A variation on the design of BM 1947.0712.209, this heavily potted eight-lobed jar has a recessed base and a raised neck. The foot is thick and gritty and the base is glazed. It is painted in underglaze blue with an all-over pattern of a squirrel climbing among gourd vines. Both the squirrel and the vine are emblems of fecundity (see BM 1936.1012.238).
