Description:
Porcelain jar with underglaze blue ‘kraak’-type decoration. This heavily potted jar has flared sides, a flat shoulder and a raised neck with an everted rim which is badly chipped. The base is recessed and glazed. It is painted in ‘kraak’-style underglaze blue with four panels containing white deer standing in front of stylized rocks and with a border of ‘ruyi’ heads above.

Comments:See also OA+.949 which could well be 1934.0717.2 Harrison-Hall 2001:Such jars were commonly exported to countries in South-east Asia. Indeed, this jar was collected in Sumatra. A similar jar, also collected in Indonesia, is in the Princessehof Museum, Leeuwarden. Confirmed as Zhangzhou, Pinghe by Li Jian’an 10 November 2009. JHH
