Stoneware jar, with four rectangular handles set horizontally on the shoulder. The jar has transparent greenish brown glaze on the interior of the neck, exterior, and on the base. There is a tiger and clouds painted on the brown exterior. There is with a long inscription underneath the glaze.

They are popular wares, characterised by rather coarse stoneware bodies modelled in shapes for daily use such as jars, ewers and bowls. Some examples are technologically very exciting as they demonstrate perhaps the earliest use of underglaze copper-red and copper-green decoration. This jar is painted in underglaze iron-brown with a tiger on one side and with an inscription on the other which translates ‘ in the third year of the Changqing period [AD 823], the Buddhist believer Bo Sidu respectfully made this vessel as an offering to be placed before the Great Buddha.’.
