Description:
Pair of jackets; fitting inside each other, part of woman’s festival costume As.1998.1.138 to 139. Outer jacket base cloth of hand-woven cotton, indigo-dyed to dark blue, with yellow and white binding cloth. Decorated with counted embroidery in silk, on back of garment and top and back area of sleeves. Design of square block with central cross and surrounding borders made up of small squares in white, green, yellows, pink and maroon. Facing on sleeves and back sides with yellow and red cloth. Inner jacket is similar in construction, but made of bought cloth, probably home-dyed to dark indigo. Embroidery only at end of ties.

Comments:Text from Corrigan 2001: 81: tonglin county, bose prefecture, guangxi province. Female Festive Jacket. Collared outer jacket with a highly decorative embroidered back and very deep sleeves. The base cloth is hand-woven cotton, indigo-dyed to dark blue. The back and sleeves are embroidered with cross and associated stitches in silk.
