Description:
An under-jacket (sleeveless); part of monk’s (‘abbot’s’?) attire. Made from many pieces of dark red 2/2 twill woven wool cloth, fulled. Centre front opening, overlapping panel [22 cms wide] lined with red tabby woven cotton cloth (commercially made); hangs below front hemline. Three different styles of floral brocaded cloth stitched to upper front and back of under-jacket; pleated under and at back of sleeve openings; polychrome silk yarns and silver-coloured metal wrapped threads and silver strip used. Red wool flap covering shoulders piped with blue cotton (?) braiding.
