Porcelain incense vessel in the form of an archaic bronze ‘gui’ with two dragon-head handles. The incense burner has blue tinged glaze. There are elaborately carved designs round the sides imitating bronze style decorative motifs.

It is covered with a pale qingbai glaze. In the Song dynasty, educated men revived interest in antiques and in collecting objects from the past. They published catalogues illustrating historical jades and bronzes. Contemporary Song craftsmen reproduced their shapes in other materials, responding to commissions from wealthy clients. This tradition was revived in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
