Description:
Longquan ware porcelain incense-burner of archaic ding tripod shape with globular body, three cabriole legs each moulded into shape of lion’s paw with animal mask at the top, and two strap handles on the shoulder. The base of the vessel is cut through to form a circular opening, sealed with a smalled inverted dish on the interior. The incense-burner has a fine, very pale grey body and thick grey-green glaze. There are the Eight Trigrams in relief on the exterior.

The body is decorated with the Eight Trigrams in relief. Similar vessels have been recovered from the Shinan shipwreck of AD1323. This ship was sunk in the waters near the Dokdo islets off the Shinan coast in south-west Korea. Of the 17,000 ceramics on board, over half were from Longquan.
