Description:
Porcelain incense burner in the form of a duck standing on a rock with incised decoration and green glaze. This incense burner is in the form of a duck standing on a rock with its head turned to one side and with a shell, possibly of a snail, in its open beak. One of the bird’s folded wings is removable and is made of gilt-bronze. Once the wing is detached it reveals a cavity which connects by hollow channels through the duck’s neck to its open beak and through its body to a hole beneath the tail feathers.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Aromatic incense such as vanilla or aloeswood was burnt in powdered or pellet form inside the cavity and the perfumed smoke emerged through the bird’s beak and bottom.
