Comments:The following information kindly suuplied by the donor:I became a member of Bath for Europe in September 2016. It was founded by Wera Hobhouse who subsequently won the Bath Lib Dem Parliamentary seat in May 2017 from a Conservative candidate. Our group is a very cohesive and talented one with good writers, film makers, designers and hard working, loyal activists and has remained determined and relentlessly active from its inception. With winter approaching in 2016, I thought some sort of hat would be a good idea for our group to wear at our weekly stalls and demonstrations and I came up with the Original Bath Beret after experimenting with a kitchen duster and a beret. I painstakingly cut out the yellow stars; Later on I found someone to laser cut the stars and in time, a group of volunteers helped make up the berets and it became a small cottage industry. The berets became so popular that we couldn’t keep up with the demand and I started to see if I could find a company to make them up for me. I tried the UK, France, Germany, Romania, and Bulgaria without success. In the end I outsourced them to China, took sole charge of the berets and re-branded them ‘bEUret.’ The suppliers are: Ningbo Huamo International Trading Co., Ltd, 17th Floor, Heng Fu Building1, 828 Fuming Road, Jiangdong District, Ningbo, China. Last September, at the Last Night of the Proms, we distributed 500 berets free to all the Promenaders who filled the Arena attired in their blue berets. The BBC lowered the lights in the intervals so the bEUrets would be less conspicuous which caused some controversy. A Twitter storm followed! Around the time of a big demonstration or march the berets become extremely popular as an iconic symbol of the Remain campaign. They are sold online and ALL proceeds go to Remain causes. So far we have raised and distributed £10,000 to the People’s Vote, Bath for Europe, OFOC Brexit, FFSake and Sodem Action.’
