Description:
A monk’s / lama’s hat; worn whilst travelling. Crown, brim (that splays out flat on either side) and small articulated flap at back made from yellow damask silk cloth; quilted. Domed crown has applied stylized eight-pointed motif with two rings of cloudband motifs (white and cream yarns (material?) on black tabby cotton ground). Red macramé wool (?) knot and vestige of tassel stitched to centre top. Couched ‘shou’ (longevity/immortality) motif worked in same materials centre front. Padded (with cardboard?). Brim covered in mid-brown fur. Lined with red tabby cotton cloth. Three red tapered ties (one missing) made from red damask silk cloth.
