Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Bronze vessels were at first a speciality of the cities of Henan province, and the very earliest vessels have come from Erlitou, near the present-day city of Luoyang. Bronzes gradually replaced ceramic vessels previously buried in tombs. The form of bronze vessels changed gradually as casting techniques developed in China. These changes distanced the bronzes from the ceramics of everyday use, making their highly valued ritual status explicit to the eye.
