Description:
Porcelain flower pot with polychrome overglaze enamels. This heavily potted porcelain flower pot has an octagonal overhanging lip, a short octagonal neck and a round body with four vertical ribs. It is stepped on to a thick round foot ring. A hole is pierced in the centre of the base for the drainage of water. Both the inside and the base are covered with a blue-white glaze. The rim is enamelled in aubergine. The neck is yellow and is incised with ‘ruyi’ heads, supporting spheres in turquoise, aubergine and green. The body has comical ‘taotie’-style masks incised on a mint-green ground and filled in with yellow, aubergine and black enamel or left white covered with a transparent glaze. Around the base is a double band of incised lotus petals and a band of stamens, all coloured with light and dark yellow enamel. The foot ring is green with a yellow edge. Just below the rim in aubergine enamel is a four-character horizontal Zhengde reign mark in a double incised rectangular cartouche. The rim is badly chipped.
