Description:
Porcelain octagonal flower pot with polychrome overglaze enamels. This flower pot has eight straight-faceted sides which flare out from a foot comprised of sixteen alternating large and small ‘ruyi’ heads. The centre of the base was pierced with a hole prior to glazing for the drainage of water. Inside it is glazed blue-white. Outside it is incised and painted in overglaze enamels with, around the rim, below a thin yellow band, an unusual border of overlapping quartered petals and stamens in contrasting aubergine and yellow. On one side is an incised four-character Zhengde reign mark on a yellow ground surrounded by a green rectangular frame with incised lines. The main body is decorated with turquoise enamel and incised with double pendant scrolls above and interlocking scroll work below infilled with green, yellow and aubergine enamels. The ‘ruyi’ feet are green with a yellow band above. A large section of this flower pot is missing and has been refilled and repainted. There are also many chips to the rim.
