Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty (1082-1135) was surnamed Zhao Mingji, the eleventh son of Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty, and his brother Zhezong had no children, so he succeeded to the throne and became the eighth emperor of the Song Dynasty. During his reign, he dominated the development of painting academies in the late Northern Song Dynasty. He once commanded his ministers to compile Xuanhe Shupu and Xuanhe Bogutou, which had a profound impact on Chinese painting.
