Description:
Green-glazed and cold-painted earthenware funerary model of a female servant. This earthenware figure represents a female servant holding a bowl of five fruits on a tray and standing on an auspicious ingot-shaped stand with a flat unglazed base. Her upper body is cold-painted and her lower half is green-glazed. Her hair is fixed in a high bun and is adorned with a tiara. She wears a bodice over a long-sleeved short robe and full skirt with tasselled ties hanging from her waist.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Aspects of her apparel suggest that this figure was made in the late Qing era (1880-1912) rather than in the Ming dynasty. Her round-necked bodice is fastened with buttons down the front, following a style fashionable in Manchu society during the late Qing period and unknown in the Ming era. Compare to a photograph of c. 1900 showing a Manchu woman in Wilson 1986, p. 64, fig. 50.
