Description:
This mould-made porcelain figure depicts a Westerner, dressed in a blue turban with back flap to protect his neck, long-sleeved green robe, yellow trousers and black boots. He is riding on the back of a caparisoned lion which stands on a rectangular base, draped in textile, and appears to be juggling a ball. Details such as the lion’s tongue and the tassels of the bridle are cold- painted in iron-red while the tail and part of the mane of the lion are blue. The lion bears the character 王 wang [King] on his forehead as he is king of beasts.
