Description:
Fish of dark green semi-translucent jade with speckling. IMG
Comments:Like no. 482 [2014,AsiaLoan,1.152], this fish is curved in an arc which widens from quite a narrow upturned snout to a broad bifurcated tail. The eye is formed from an incised circle, with gills suggested by an incised arc. A long dorsal fin and two shorter fins at the base of the belly have very fine incised lines. This fish differs from the earlier pieces in having a small claw just below the jaw, an addition that parallels the way in which birds acquired fishes’ tails; here the fish has gained a bird’s claw. There is a small hole at the base of the jaw. See Rawson 1995, p.229, cat.no.12.34. Shang.
