Description:
Yixing stoneware figure of a duck in seated position, modelled in two sections joined horizontally. The figure has a pale buff body and thick duck egg blue glaze with close crackle. The bill and feet are covered in reddish-brown slip and the eye is painted in black glaze. The base is unglazed.

It has a pale stoneware body which has been slip painted to look like purple-brown Yixing clay for the feet and beak. Originally it would have been displayed on a carved wooden stand. Models of birds were popular items for display in 18th century Europe but they have a much longer history in China.
