Comments:A crouching animal raises its head slightly to look back towards its tail. The head is broad and blunt with an almost straight snout and a long striated beard. There are deep grooves either side of the snout. Scrolls representing the nose divide rounded, bulging eyes. On the head are curled ears, and a striated mane runs between them down the back. Striations also embellish a coiled and bifurcated tail. The spine is indicated by a ridge of small bumps, and grooves suggest sinews and muscles. The forepaws are crossed out in front of the creature’s breast and the rear ones are folded under the body. The underside is fully carved also. Both the underside and the mane have black patches. See Rawson 1995, p.373, cat.no.26.17. The recumbent and regardant feline/beast with blunt snout and mouth with grooves running between the eyes and the snout has been endowed with a striated beard. Between curled ears from the top of the head is a striated mane. The beast with knobbed spine leading to a curled bifurcated tail is lying with its front paws overlapping. Yuan/Ming. Length 60mm.
