“The confrontation between two chickens” is not only a sample painting popular in Suzhou in the middle and late Ming Dynasty, but also a classic pattern of Gu Embroidery popular in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. During the period of Jiajing (1522-1566), the female family members of the Gu family in Shanghai, who were good at painting, were skilled in embroidery. They studied and created various stitches, and the embroidery was like a picture of fine pen sketching and color shading. They closely integrated embroidery and painting. At that time, people named it “Gu Embroidery” after their surname.
