White porcelain sculpture of a Dutch couple. Comments:Harrison-Hall and Krahl 1994:This group is unusual in having been left undecorated. Unlike BM Franks. 578B and BM 1980.0728.666 which were made at the Dehua kilns where enamels were rarely used, this sculpture was made at Jingdezhen, where porcelain was rarely left plain. It may be one of the pieces sent to Canton to be decorated there, but mistakenly sent to Europe unpainted. Similar groups, painted in different ways, are for example, in the Mottahedeh collection (Howard and Ayers, 1978, vol. II, no. 648); and in the Espirito Santo collection (Beurdeley, 1962, pl. V).
