Description:
This mould-made porcelain figure of the smiling Tang poet, Li Bai, shows him in a characteristic pose, staring wistfully into an empty wine jar. He is dressed in a scholar’s hat, a robe decorated with clouds, and a crane rank badge. The wine jar is painted with a dragon holding a lingzhi fungus with a band of plum blossom around the shoulder and further flowers around the neck in green, aubergine, yellow and black enamels. This was used as a brush washer on a scholar’s desk.
