- Description:
Although the original title of this axis is called “Kaitai Diagram of Kexiu”, its technique is actually different from that of Kesi. The whole pattern is woven on the yarn, and some patterns are made by the technique of poking yarn and adding embroidery. The weaving bottom of the weaving part is a mesh yarn, which is woven and wound with colored threads across the mesh to form the desired pattern. The weaving surface is thick and tight, and the outline is free of the sawtooth like gaps in the ordinary tapestry weaving. The picture shows a child in Mongolian costume riding a sheep to look back, and two other children and eight other sheep form the auspicious meaning of the homophonic “Nine Sheep Brings Peace”. The composition of this axis can be grouped with the “Spring Festival Painting”, a fabric of the Metropolitan Museum of America. All kinds of plants have gorgeous shapes and outstanding embroidery. It is a masterpiece in the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, or related to the weaving achievements of the Mongolian and Yuan royal families.
