  • Description:
This volume depicts the scene of birds and birds on the banks of the Shuize River. The painter shows the rocks with green colors, and delicately depicts the dense willows beside the water and the elegant hibiscus flowers, which makes this colorful picture show a clear and beautiful mood. Although the title of the painting is called “Nine Cormorants”, the birds in the painting are actually not “cormorants”, but rather herons. There are nine egrets in the picture, which is a metaphor for the saying in The Analects of Confucius that “gentlemen have nine thoughts”. It is a common flower and bird theme after the Ming Dynasty. Although there is “Heyang Lidi” at the end of the volume, according to the style of painting, this painting should be an antique work after the middle of the Ming Dynasty.
