Description:
This moulded porcelain figure depicts a man with a long beard, wearing a black scholar’s hat and dressed in an aubergine over–robe, and green under robe with black shoes. He is standing on a textile covered plinth and holds a drum in his right hand. The figure may be identified as Zhang Guolao, one of the Eight Daoist Immortals. He is depicted as a musician who uses two crutch shaped drum-sticks to beat a yu gu [cylindrical bamboo fish drum]. Originally this would have been one of a set of eight figures.
