Description:
This seated famille verte porcelain figure on a hexagonal base represents one of the Eight Daoist Immortals, Li Tieguai. He is identified by his ragged beggar’s appearance, unshaven face, dark skin and iron crutch – which he once held in his left hand. He is dressed in a black robe decorated with plum blossom and wears trousers, tied at the ankles. The base is painted with a central roundel and diaper design on the front three faces and with a chime flanked by two flower heads at the back. Originally it would have belonged to a set of eight figures.
