Description:
Figure of the Budai Hesheng with biscuit-fired and green-glaze decoration. This mould-made standing figure represents Budai Hesheng. He is identified by his expansive pot belly, plump face, elongated ear lobes and large sack. Typically he is shown with a jovial expression, wearing loose monastic robes tied beneath his paunch and a string of monk’s beads. In his left hand he holds a bulging sack. His right hand is restored. Areas of exposed flesh such as his face, chest, hands and feet are fired in the biscuit. The remainder is glazed with a thick green glaze. His ears and mouth are pierced for the escape of gas during firing.
