This drawing is described as: “78. various warlike instruments. – Vide Sir Geo: Stauntons Acc.t in the Folio Vol of Plates, Plate 19.th”This drawing was engraved – in a horizontal format and with some alterations in the arrangement of the individual items – by Thomas Medland as Plate 19 in Staunton’s “Account” with the following key given below the image: “INSTRUMENTS of WAR used by the CHINESE. / 1. A Swivel Gun used in Ships of War / 2. A Bow and Case / 3. A Quiver and Arrows / 4. A Helmet / 5. A Shield used by the Corps called Tygers of War / 6. A Sword used by the same / 7.
