Comments:Published PDF date : Ming 15th century Room 95 label text:PDF 593 Dish with two dragonsThis shallow dish is moulded with two five-clawed dragons pursuing each other around the cavetto, separated by ruyi clouds and with three incised ruyi clouds in the centre. The decoration is semi-obscured by its cloudy copper-red monochrome glaze, which is typical of the Hongwu period. The base is unglazed but treated with a dressing. Such dishes were made at Jingdezhen for imperial ceremonial use. In contrast to the West, in China dragons are traditionally considered to be auspicious. They are regarded as the controllers of the water supply and ultimately came to symbolise imperial authority.Porcelain with moulded and incised decoration and copper-red glaze Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province江西省, 景德鎮Ming dynasty, Hongwu period, AD 1368–98 PDF 593雙龍紋盤此淺盤內壁印兩條五爪龍紋互相追逐,間隔以如意雲紋;內底刻劃三朵如意雲紋。
