Description:
Large porcelain serving dish with bracket-lobed rim and underglaze red decoration. This heavily potted serving dish has rounded bracket-lobed sides and a flat rising rim with a thick bracketed edge, supported by a low wedge-shaped foot ring. The dish is painted under the glaze with copper oxide in solution which has misfired to a pinkish grey. In the centre is a flower head surrounded by radiating lotus-petal lappets. Encircling this motif are two sets of double red lines and a circlet of ruyi-shaped cartouches framing single lotus flowers. Beyond this are six further stylized lotus and foliage. In the cavetto and outside are sixteen single lotus; the rim is decorated with lingzhi scroll and its underside with waves. The base is unglazed and has fired a streaky brick-red. This serving dish was once badly broken and restored with rivets which have now been removed, the holes filled and the dish restuck and painted.
