Description:
A pair of porcelain dishes with underglaze blue decoration. These two shallow dishes are identical, both having rounded sides and a low tapering foot. Inside in a central roundel a pair of geese is shown – one standing on a rock with reeds and plants, the other flying past the sun towards its mate. Surrounding this in the cavetto are three clumps of lotus and leaves alternating with stylized waves and with three different water weeds above. Outside two fruiting grape vines are shown growing from the rim and the base. Both bases carry a six-character Jiajing reign mark in a double ring in underglaze blue.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:In China the goose is a symbol of married bliss as it was believed that, like the mandarin duck, it takes just one partner for life.
