Description:
Longquan ware porcelain dish with rim pierced with two pairs of holes mounted with copper alloy loop handles in floret-shaped fittings. The dish has a pale grey body and transparent greyish-green glaze. There are two fish in applied relief in the centre of the interior, and overlapping lotus petals carved on the exterior.

Chinese people regard paired fish as a rebus (visual pun) for abundance as the words for both fish 魚 and abundance 餘, are pronounced yu. The dish was originally fired with two holes on each side of the rim – presumably for metal handles. The original thirteenth century handles are lost.
