Porcelain dish with slightly rounded sides and flattened mouth-rim with thickened edge. The dish has a fine thin white body. There is a lady and an attendant, both carrying libation cups, in pale transparent ‘famille verte’ palette enamel on the interior.

Comments:Room 95 label text:PDF 890Dish with a lady and attendantIn the centre of the dish, are two ladies. One is carrying a jue on a dish, the other, an attendant, is carrying a wine ewer which has the character 壽 (shou ‘longevity’) on it. Around the rim are four characters萬壽 無疆 (wanshou wujiang ‘ten thousand years of longevity without end’). There is a six-character Kangxi mark in a double circle in underglaze blue on the base. The Kangxi emperor ruled for sixty-one years, which was the longest reign in Chinese history. This dish and others like it were commissioned for the celebration of his sixtieth birthday on 12th April 1713.
