Description:
Dish. Coat of arms of Alvarez de Bohorques of Castille. Service ordered through the East India Company, although the arms are not of British origin. The arms are of Alvarez de Bohorques of Castille, “Gules a bend held at either end by a beast’s head all or within a bordure azure charged in chief and in base with a fleur-de-lis of the second and in fess with two castles argent”; impaling “Argent a lion rampant collared” and “Bendy gules and or” impaled. There is no crest, but a helm with plumes, possibly added to improve the design. The Alvarez de Bohorques are a Castilian family, and it seems most probable that the service was made for an Anglo-Spanish merchant or a Spaniard settled in Britain. Made of enamelled porcelain.
