Eight-lobed porcelain dish with ‘kraak’-type underglaze blue decoration. This dish is moulded into the shape of an eight-petalled flower with a straight foot to which grit has adhered. Inside a riverscape is depicted with two ‘sanpans’ sailing down a river, each with cargo, a sailor and a passenger. On the near bank a standing figure is shown together with trees and a two-storey building. On the far side is a group of two- and five-storey buildings. The lobed well is painted with opposing pairs of mandarin ducks and lotus flowers. The outside shows two birds in flight and two perched on branches.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001: Following a tradition which may be traced directly to the Tang dynasty, the shape of this dish is probably modelled on that of a silver or lacquer vessel.
