Description:
‘Swatow-type’ porcelain dish with underglaze blue decoration. This ‘Swatow-type’ dish has shallow flaring sides and a gritty tapering foot and base. Inside it is painted with three phoenix flying around a pearl in blue-black cobalt beneath a crazed glaze.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Another dish of this size, painted with four lions encircling a flaming pearl in blue beneath a crackled glaze, was recovered from the Witte Leeuw cargo of 1613 (see BM 1921.1107.1). Compare also with BM Franks.97a.
