Porcelain dish with underglaze blue decoration. This heavily potted dish has rounded sides and a broad flat upturned rim with bracket-lobed edge and a thick tapering foot. Inside it is painted with four pop-eyed lions with bared teeth, chasing each other around a beribboned ball. Outside the lions pursue individual balls. The base carries a four-character hall mark in a double square which reads 玉 堂 佳 器 ‘Yu tang jia qi’ [Fine vessel of the Jade Hall]. A large chip is missing from the underside of the fritted rim.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:The strong blue used together with the studio mark suggest that this dish dates to the late Jiajing or Wanli era.
