Description:
Oval dish. Coat of arms of Norton of Yorkshire, “Azure a maunch ermine overall a bend gules (although the bend is missing), impaling Chapple of London, “Or, an anchor in pale sable; crest, “A moor’s head, couped at the shoulders and wreathed round the temples with ivy proper, tied argent and azure”. The Nortons are descended from Richard Norton of Norton, Sheriff of Yorkshire in the early years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. Fletcher Norton, born in 1716, was a lawyer; in 1741 he married Grace, eldest daughter of Sir William Chapple, a judge of the King’s Bench. Made of enamelled porcelain; a crest in the centre with sprigs of flowers in the well and spearhead borders in the well and on the rim..
