This cup is a Qing dynasty, Qianlong period copy of a Ming doucai cup. Decorators of the Ming examples used layers of coloured enamels to suggest different textures, but the development of a palette of opaque enamels in the Qing dynasty allowed shading as we see here. There is an apocryphal six-character Chenghua mark in a double rectangle in pale underglaze blue on the base.Porcelain with underglaze blue and overglaze iron-red, yellow, black and green enamelsJingdezhen, Jiangxi province
