Old pines and dead trees are painted on the waterfront, while the landscape is flat and distant, and the scenery is sparse and spacious. There is no author’s stamp, and the imitation title in the upper right corner is “Li Cheng Han Lin Ping Ye”. Li Cheng (AD 916-967), a descendant of the Tang royal family, lived in Chang’an, Shaanxi Province, and moved to Qingzhou, Shandong Province at the end of the Tang Dynasty. He has a bohemian personality, likes drinking and poetry, and is good at painting landscapes. Li Cheng’s works were extremely rare at the end of the Northern Song Dynasty. According to records, his paintings were delicate and good at expressing the artistic conception of “bleak weather and clear forest”. This painting of trees and stones imitates the characteristics of Li Cheng’s cold forest, which should be imitated in the Ming Dynasty.
