Emperor Xuanzu of the Song Dynasty (902-961) was the mother of Zhao Kuangyin (927-976), the founder of the Song Dynasty. Different from other empresses in the Song Dynasty who looked like Yi (Yin Hui)’s clothes, the pale yellow robe of Emperor Xuanzu of the Song Dynasty was more gorgeous, and the phoenix patterned robe with small pearls and piping was even more gorgeous. The translucent skirt with patterns was so long that it was out of the picture. This rare afterimage enriches today’s understanding of the material life of concubines in the Song Dynasty.
