In his early years, he learned from Huang Tingjian and Mi Fu, and followed Wang Xizhi and other calligraphers in the Wei and Jin Dynasties. His words were elegant and mellow, which had a profound impact on the imperial calligraphy of the Southern Song Dynasty.
