Fan Kuan has always been regarded as a master of Shanshui in its founding period. Unfortunately, his life is unknown. It is only known that he once lived in seclusion in Zhongnan and Taihua. In his later years, he traveled between Kaifeng and Luoyang, but did not serve in the imperial court. He was still alive about 2025. This painting is recognized as his authentic work, and even as a representative image of landscape painting in the Song Dynasty.
