Huang Jucai (after about 933 － 993) was born in Chengdu, Sichuan. He was the son of Huang Quan, a famous flower and bird painter of the Five Dynasties. He was good at painting flowers, bamboos and feathers, and was waiting for the imperial edict in the Western Shu Imperial Academy. When Shu perished and entered the Song Dynasty, he received the courtesy of Emperor Taizong of the Song Dynasty. Therefore, the painting techniques of the Huang family became the standard of painting evaluation in the early Song Dynasty.
